Self-Image NEW!
by Christopher R. Edgar
A few years ago, I was fixated on overcoming what I saw as my “negative
self-image.” Basically, the problem was that I wanted to do certain
things I thought would be enjoyable and fulfilling, but I was afraid of
doing them. I wanted to start my own business, make more of an effort to
meet people, take up more “extreme” sports, and so forth, but I would
feel anxiety when I’d contemplate doing those things, and would find
myself holding back.
I used to think this meant my unconscious mind had an “image,” or
perception, of me as someone who didn’t or couldn’t do those
activities. My mind, I believed, was refusing to allow me to act
inconsistently with that image. I didn’t know how I’d developed my
self-image—maybe it was genetic, a childhood event, not enough Vitamin C
in my diet, or something else—but the fact remained that it was there.
Thus, I was focused on finding a way to improve my self-image—to
convince my unconscious mind to view me as someone capable of taking up
the challenges I wanted to face. If I did that, I thought, anxiety would
no longer keep me from achieving my goals.

Guilt-Free
Mindfulness
NEW!
by Sue Patton Thoele
Mindfulness is being aware of yourself, others, and your surroundings in
the moment. Well-known mindfulness teacher, Jon Kabat-Zinn, defines
it this way Mindfulness means paying
attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and
nonjudgmentally. I also like to think of mindfulness as the art
of inhabiting your own life
with kindness and acceptance.
When first entertaining the idea of practicing mindfulness in a conscious,
committed way, I had mixed feelings. On the one hand, I absolutely
believed that I would love the peace of mind and sense of balance that
those who practiced mindfulness seemed to enjoy. On the other hand, I
groaned inwardly at the thought of adding yet another guilt-inducing
"should" to an already full schedule. Two different things
tempered my concerns and helped me make a wholehearted commitment to the
practice of mindfulness. One was noticing how calm, accepting, and
humorous people were whom I knew practiced mindfulness regularly. I wanted
more of that appealing equanimity and joy. The other realization was a
semi-embarrassing "Duh!" Instead of making mindfulness a
guilt-inducing chore, I could simply choose to make practicing mindfulness
a joy and celebrate each small step taken.

Changing
the Focal Point of Our Lives to the Present Moment
NEW!
by Alice Gardner
Something totally
unprecedented is happening right now—spiritually,
culturally and technologically. Oprah Winfrey has offered her massive
media presence to the movement of spiritual awakening in our world and has
created a huge ten-week online web-cast classroom with Eckhart Tolle.
Together they are teaching Eckhart’s new book, A
New Earth, point-by-point, chapter-by-chapter.
Eckhart has a wonderful
way of saying inspiring things using such plain language that we can all
relate to no matter what our spiritual or religious backgrounds might be.
This has meant that Oprah and Eckhart’s massive media presentation is
appealing to unprecedented numbers of people around the world and breaking
new ground technologically through the numbers simultaneously
participating. No matter which religious or spiritual vocabulary we
usually use, through this online class millions of people are connecting
with the message in this wonderful book about awakening to our life’s
purpose and creating a new earth.

The Evolution of a Soul Mate
Relationship
by Kimmie Rose Zapf
Purpose of Your Life
The whole purpose to be on this earth plane
is for your soul to evolve and go back to the light from which it came. In
order to do this you must experience “Love” and let go of any fears.
We are joined in from lifetime to lifetime by “helpers” with whom we
refer to as “Soul mates”. There are two types of Soul mates:
Companions and Karmic. I will explain those later. First we need to
explain your soul’s purpose.

___________________ Our Seven Spiritual Gene Sets
by Meredith L. Young-Sowers
Just as physical DNA can be turned on and off by attitudes, beliefs, nutrition, and environment, the same is true of our spiritual DNA—it too can be turned on and off. Our spiritual DNA is activated when we are living in accordance with our true Self—such as when we are attentive to our choices; when we strive to find ways of compromising, seeking solutions to problems that used to send us over the moon; and when we hold back anger and rage until it calms—and we calm—and find a wiser way to proceed.

Boundaries Protect Who We Are
by Tim Murphy
The
human life is precious. Many of us have gone through adversities in life
that have given us the false impression that we are less than, or that we
don’t belong. Nothing could be farther from the truth. There’s a
purpose and a plan for your life. Because you are worth it – you need to
protect yourself with boundaries.
Those
of us, who’ve allowed our self esteem to go down hill, must realize it
can’t stay down there. To begin to enjoy life the way it was intended we

You Can Do What You Love
by Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer
You are a special, unique person, and you have a meaningful contribution
to make to the world. Every person is born with a purpose. There is a
reason you are here; you have a role to play that no one else on the
planet could fill. The special contribution you came to make is your
life’s work. When you are doing that work, you are following your higher
path, and your life will be filled with increasing joy, abundance, and
well-being. Finding your life’s work allows you to create abundance and
money easily. The job or activities that are meant to be your life’s
work involve doing what you love with your time and energy. When you love
what you do, you feel alive, happy, and fulfilled. You radiate joy and
draw many good things to you. You can make money doing work that you
don’t like, but it will take more effort. Not liking what you do with
your time and energy diminishes your flow of abundance; loving what you do
brings abundance more easily and effortlessly.

The Path of Unconditional
Happiness
by Michael A. Singer
The highest spiritual path is life itself. If you know how to live daily
life, it all becomes a liberating experience. But first you have to
approach life properly, or it can be very confusing. To begin with, you
have to realize that you really only have one choice in this life, and
it's not about your career, whom you want to marry, or whether you want to
seek God. People tend to burden themselves with so many choices. But, in
the end, you can throw it all away and just make one basic, underlying
decision: Do you want to be happy, or do you not want to be happy? It's
really that simple. Once you make that choice, your path through life
becomes totally clear.

The Truth
About Happiness: An Interview With Michael Bernard Beckwith
by Arielle Ford
At the heart of the desire for money, fame, and power is a deep longing for happiness. While Amazon.com boasts more than 200,000 titles on the subject of happiness, it appears that Americans are still searching for it. In the new film LIVING LUMINARIES (On the Serious Business of Happiness), filmmakers Michael Lasky and Larry Kurnarsky illuminate the path to human happiness by presenting concepts about living in the now, as well as, providing thought provoking ideas about consciously choosing love, gratitude, honesty, forgiveness, patience, and kindness. The film follows a young seeker as he interviews an A-list of swamis, shamans, rabbis, ministers, Tibetan monks contemporary thinkers and best-selling authors such as Marianne Williamson, don Miguel Ruiz, Eckhart Tolle & Michael Bernard Beckwith, founder of the Agape International Spiritual Center in Los Angeles. Beckwith, who is also one of the stars of THE SECRET, has had a busy year with appearances on Oprah, Larry King Live and many other national TV shows. We recently caught up with him to discuss his thoughts on LIVING LUMINARIES and the subject of happiness.

Why
Being Authentic is So Difficult
by Peter G. Vajda, Ph.D, C.P.C.
Why do we find ourselves struggling so often to be who we really are? Why
is it so challenging to show up authentically? Why do we wear masks, and
assume personalities of actors that hide our True and Real Self? What
brings us to be fake and phony so much of the time? The kicker is
that everyone is born authentic. What happens is that, beginning with
childhood and moving through adolescence and into adulthood, we spend
countless minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years separating from
our innate, authentic, natural and spontaneous self. And, along the road,
we become confused. “Who am I, really?” becomes the operative
question.

Honor The Feminine In Us And In
Others
by Stephen Ruppenthal
One day this past winter, I decided to take in a talk on the Buddhist
mother of compassion, Kuanyin. Interested people, and not only women,
flooded out the doors of the bookstore where it was being held. I asked
myself, why do other talks barely fill the room while this one has a line
flowing out onto the street? A good guess might be that people are sick of
living in a world in which masculine aggressiveness and control have run
roughshod over more feminine qualities like love, patience, or a feeling
for healing and harmony. I believe many more people wish that qualities
like gentleness, tenderness, patience, receptiveness, closeness to nature,
and the readiness to forgive were more valued in our world. Let’s start
right now with five ways all of us, men and women alike, can honor and
cultivate the qualities of our feminine side.

What is authenticity? We may not know how to define it, but we certainly
know it when we see it. In fact, when we are in the presence of an
authentic person, many of us can even feel it in our bones. We gravitate

who radiate warmth and that "down to earth" feeling. We gather
around the people who can "tell it like it is" and laugh at

Trying

that was within walking distance of a cool outdoor shopping area called
the Third Street Promenade. And within this grouping of hip stores are
several restaurants, including one that I particularly like called Johnny
Rockets--a 1950’s style hamburger joint that unintentionally almost
killed me. We were vacationing with our two nieces, ages 15 and 17,

overlooked the vacationers and street musicians. After ordering a #12
hamburger with fries, I decided to get a chocolate malt to really set the
mood. And this is where my problems began.

Happiness
as a Priority
by Richard Carlson, PhD
It’s
always been interesting to me that the average person (go ahead and ask
them), spends ten times (or more) the amount of time watching television
than he or she does even considering happiness.
In fact, in one pole that I conducted, not a single person out of
more than 30 people admitted to spending even one second thinking about
how they might go about becoming happier! Some
of these people spent anywhere from 2-7 hours a day in front of a
television set, yet not one minute contemplating what could amount to the
most important question of one’s life—how can I be happier?
One of the first rules of any venture is that in order to get
somewhere, you need at least a general idea of how to get there and, at
very least, where you are going!

Are Secrets Spoiling Your Spiritual
Life?
by John Howard Prin, LADC
As an addictions counselor, I often see people who want to grow spiritually but who are using addictions as shortcuts to their goals. Over the years I've identified two major conditions that persons trapped in addiction claim for staying addicted: boredom and misery. These misguided folks persist in heavy drinking, compulsive shopping, internet pornography, shoplifting, eating disorders, and more in order to achieve the mood change from negative emotions that they seek — in order to escape from their boredom or pain and achieve what feels like a spiritual high. Unfortunately once the high disappears, what is left is shame, guilt, remorse, and disapproval from the important people in their lives. This tends to lead to secrecy. Avoiding the shame, guilt, and remorse is a whopping challenge in itself and failure, or refusal to even try, is rife. About one-third of the clients whom I see actively steal hours away from their public lives, including home and work lives, to indulge in their hidden addictive habits — secretly attempting to reach transcendence from reality.

premise that we are primarily sexual creatures.

Understanding Breast Cancer: Tips
For Wellness
by Dr. Rita Louise
Our body is made up thousands of cells that differ in size, shape and
function. Controlled by our DNA, each cell is programmed to perform
certain tasks and after a specified period of time - die. This is normally
done in an orderly manner. However, if our cells are exposed to
carcinogens, viruses or ionizing radiation, for example, the DNA can
become damaged creating havoc with this once orderly process. Said another
way, if the rate of new cell growth in the body overcomes the rate of cell
death, tumors can develop. If these cells invade and destroy surrounding
normal tissues, the abnormal cell growth is considered to be cancerous.

of a day filled with new discoveries and adventures. Moments such as these offer me a sense of contentment that all is perfect in
the moment.

the first wild, sweet flush of a romance is desire, and it’s a thrilling
ride with ups and downs of fascination, curiosity, joy, and passion. It is
possible to resist this exhilarating plunge, but few choose to do to.

To Our Politicians
From a Spiritual Working Stiff
by Dr. Wayne Dyer
I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat. Frankly, I still have difficulty
with the labels, conservative and liberal. Those who know me have never
been able to pigeonhole me. I relate to Kierkegaard's observation:
"Once you label me, you negate me." In truth, I am a working
stiff.

Finding Balance - In A Stressful World!
by Karen Ann Dahlman
Is it possible to live a balanced life?
Living a balanced life may conjure up images of balanced scales, being a “superhuman”, feeling even-keeled and in control. We perceive it to mean symmetrical, composed, stable and poised.
The collective belief is that if you equally attend to all facets of your life, and if you maintain your composure while doing so, you will find the nirvana of balance within your life. This is a great myth, yet a perceived road map to many for finding balance.
FYI - Your life is not meant to be one static pie chart you control! Click

Grow a Balanced, Empowered Self
by Charlene M. Proctor, Ph.D.
Generating woman-power to overcome inevitable everyday problems, or perhaps deeper issues of self-love, acceptance, or forgiveness, is about knowing the spirit-power within at an intimate level. The word empowerment means power put into action. When you reach the point of empowerment, you operate from an unfathomable sense of spiritual balance, a profound knowingness that you are composed of the All and are able to use it in the real world. It's impossible to generate self-love or put any spiritual principle to work
until you fully embrace all aspects of who you are. Loving self is about loving spirit. Your power to effect change and cope is your inherent spirit-power put into action.

Rawsome Beauty: Luck of the Draw or Within Reach of All?
by Tonya Zavasta
All of my life, I wanted to be beautiful. In today’s society, it is more acceptable to insist that you are “beautiful on the inside”, unfortunately, those of us on the outside are not seeing your insides. Wanting to be beautiful is now criticized as being shallow. I’m sorry but I would rather be perceived as shallow than hypocritical because I find it impossible to believe than any women is content to be less than she can be.

Evolving the
Soul-Centered Relationship
by Linda Marks, MSM
Our idea of what we want in love relationships is evolving. Once, a stable
partner with a steady job who could share the tasks of daily life and
provide companionship through both good times and bad times was enough,
and even something to be grateful for. In cultures where men and women
were paired off in arranged marriages, love, sexual-spiritual connection
and soul partnership were not part of the discussion the parents of the
bride and groom engaged in while negotiating the marriage contract.

Medical Testing:
Health By The Numbers Doesn't Work
by Dr. Randy Wysong
Perhaps one of the most insidious dangers in modern technology is medical
testing. Although it would be nice to be able to visit our doctor and get
all hooked up with electrodes, inflatable cuffs, probes, needles and
catheters and have a read-out telling us exactly how we are working and
where there is a problem, that is a myth, not the reality.

Taoism and Sexuality
by Rachel Carlton Abrams, M.D.
Taoism is a spiritual tradition that embraces our sexual desire and uses
it within our bodies as a force for healing and spiritual growth. Desire
is a rich and potent part of our human experience. The Taoists think of
desire, called sexual energy or jing chi, as part of our life energy, or
chi. To be passionate is to be full of chi. The English words
"desire" or "passion" connote a feeling of yearning
and fervor that includes sex, but they also reflect our strongest feelings
about life. When we are passionate about anything--our family, our work,
our spirituality, an important social cause--we are investing our chi in
this experience. Our passion is what moves us to action and ultimately is
what gives us joy. We are passionate about the things that matter most to
us.

Parenting as a Spiritual Path
by Gloria Deckro
The step into parenthood is an initiation in the truest sense of the word — a huge leap into the unknown. We suddenly find ourselves with 24-hour a day responsibility for another human being who is totally dependent on us. As the task unfolds we discover that we are called upon to be teacher, provider, disciplinarian, healer, spiritual guide and friend. Our children test us, they call on us to face unhealed baggage from our own childhood, and they inspire us to dig deep for resources that we never knew we had. Ultimately our mission is to support and guide them to the point where they can leave us and move on. As Kahil Gibran says to parents in his book The Prophet, "Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself…You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth." Click

It is normal to shed hair every day and the truth is we loose between 100-125 hairs on any given day. Hair that is shed falls out at the end of growth cycle.
