A Journey through the Stones & Bones of the Andes: Sifting Through Personal Terrain

The rocks of the Andes, literally the stones along the foot paths and those that make the magnificent ruins of towns and ancient structures, are seen as the ‘bones’ of the Pachamama, Mother Earth. The Natives believe certain stones at these ancient sites can help us heal, by imparting light energy or absorbing dense energies, from the fabric of our energetic light body.

This was my ninth time to the Land of the Ancient Inca, and by my own admission, it was to be my last. I had gone in journey’s past as neophyte, as student, as teacher and as p’aqo. What had brought me there the first time was a repetitious dream from childhood; and the encouragement, if not down right insistence by one of my long time Indigenous ‘Grandmothers’, my Seneca mentor Gram Twylah, to ‘seek further’.

Mysteries of life unraveled in Wild Dolphin Swim Encounters

I meet my new dolphin 'pod' adventurers at the charter airport: diverse, travel weary, filled with unknown anticipations. They don't know it yet but they are about to enter a Divine Recipe of great equalizers:  the sun, the sea, a custom built tri-maran and countless numbers of wild, free dolphins.  I look around at the group smiling, soaking all their innocence in.

I've been making pilgrimages to swim with wild dolphins in the Bahamas for coming up on 10 years now. Despite untold numbers of encounters with dolphins and a stream of returning guests, no two trips have been nor ever will be the same.  It is the epitome of the indigenous saying, "you cannot step in the same river twice."  Impossible because the water is constantly moving, shifting the sand beneath your feet, the wind and air are in permanent flux, and so too is everything that surrounds you...all along with the cells within your own bodily vessel perpetually turning and changing.  So begins the first of a series of Dolphin Dancing Lessons that these guests and myself will receive:  the surrendering of all expectations.

What's All The Fuss About Dolphins?

I wasn't always a dolphin enthusiast. In fact, almost 10 years ago, I confess to rarely giving them a thought. I had other more primal and pressing hurdles to navigate, including going through a painful divorce. But Life, in It's Infinite Wisdom, always has a larger plan for us than we can see for ourselves. I was leafing through a magazine a decade ago, when I saw a tiny black and white drawing of a dolphin and a goddess connecting in the sea. Something about it caught my eye. I called the number and before I had time to talk myself out of it, I was signing myself up to go swimming with some wild dolphins.

I had no idea.

My conscious intention for the trip was to see the very earliest female imagery dating back to the 'Ice Age. And I did. I explored some wonderful museums and archaeological sites. . . but some other force was at work.

I kept bumping into black and brown madonnas in the crypts and altars or very old churches. Inevitably, they were surrounded by many lit candles, more than around the statues of the white Mary or Jesus. I noted this phenomenon first at Chartres. While the tourists were wandering around admiring the beauty of the stained glass windows, dozens of other people were focused on a statue of a very black mother holding a very black child. I watched as people lit candles and left notes and kissed the pillar upon which she stood. It appeared to me that the spiritual pulse of the whole great cathedral was centered on this statue of a black mother.

Conscious Choice-Guidelines For Choosing A Dolphin Swim

There are many factors to consider when choosing an up close, intimate dolphin encounter. Intimate is an important word here, because when you want to swim with dolphins you are asking them to agree to the equivalent of meeting a stranger then immediately spending a few hours with them, touching, hugging, becoming deeply emotional, and maybe even falling in love. Although dolphin intelligence is no longer underestimated, their awareness and consciousness often is. Asking that kind of intimacy with very conscious beings demands an honoring and understanding of who they are and how we can best relate in a respectful way to them.
