Self-Breast Care for Women
by Katharina Wehrli
Modern living has brought much progress in many areas, but this progress didn’t come without a price. People have lost their sense of communal belonging and organic wholeness. The rapid changes that are currently taking place on the planet impact on their psyche with increased stress. The feminine qualities of nurturing, emotional cohesiveness, and inner security are gone as well.
Seeing that the stress of fast paced living is ever more acute, we need to balance it with the soothing energies of love and compassion. Celebrating the Goddess within brings these essential qualities back into our lives. The feminine aspect of divinity embraces and protects us like a mother who lifts her small child onto her lap. So we can once again take the time to honor and care for our body, mind, and soul.
The female breasts represent this nurturing and caring. Their natural curves remind us of comfort. Their delicate softness invites the warmth of a giving touch. In Western societies, however, the breast has become a taboo organ with tremendous power and expectation. Its size and shape is supposed to fit a predetermined form. The breast is glorified as a sex object and exploited for money. While the fashion industry dictates the look, medical research has come up with alarming rates of fast growing cancers.
One way or another everyone is hypnotized into boob trance. For men it may well be about entertainment and sensual pleasure, but for women this is a different story. The clandestine existence of their breasts is subject to various concerns. Some of them are more serious than others, but all of them are impacting on the female psyche with increasingly unhealthy pressure.
The breast is not a sex symbol, and its size has nothing to do with the ability to be sensual, attractive, or sexually magnetic. Neither is it a medical experiment or a death threat. When we remember to be gentle, kind, and caring with our own naturally beautiful breasts, we overcome low self-esteem, worry, and disease.
Just as imagination is more powerful than knowledge, actual experience is more significant than belief. Let’s see the Goddess here in her natural beauty, her unconditional giving kindness, her calmness, and her fearless stance in the face of the
unknown. She is waiting for us to reclaim our bodies and rejoice in this union with her. Self-breast care is an effective way to experience this connection with our inherently powerful being. It builds trust in the natural processes of life.
There are many different ways to massage the breasts, all of which are beneficial, particularly if done regularly. It is a centering, calming activity that feels good. In addition, it regulates the menstrual cycle, eases cramps, and promotes the alleviation of breast soreness due to hormonal fluctuation. Any simple self-manipulation technique prevents stagnant tissue from creating blocked ducts or forming calcification. The sheer fact that the breast tissue is stimulated results in drainage of the glands. Consequently toxins cannot settle.
Emotions are related to the production of hormones, especially progesterone and oxytocin. Both these hormones are proven to affect the human organism in positive ways. Progesterone has a calming effect and aids in sleep. Oxytocin is normally produced in lactating women along with another hormone. It may also reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer. Self-breast massage stimulates both these hormones.
The nerves in the breasts connect to all the major organs and glands. The breast tissue links to the major organs of the body, while the nipples correlate to the glands. The glands as well as the organs in turn are linked with the subtle human energy anatomy. And the life force runs through this system.
Massaging the breasts indirectly balances blocked energy channels. This may result in healing of seemingly unrelated ailments. Just like the ear, hands, or feet, the breasts reflexively represent the whole body. Working with the breasts in this capacity is therefore a discipline that addresses the entire being.
There is also a more comprehensive self-breast care that uses touch, visualization, breath, and sound in combination. The visualizations are linked with the breath. Mental/emotional balancing occurs through sounds. There is much room for creativity to find personal affirmations on the in- and out breath. Combined with the toning and firming effect on the breasts, this is a thorough holistic workout that requires only ten minutes a day.
