A Powerful Lesson Of Love & Friendship
It was the early 1990s
when Melissa and I first felt the yearning to visit England. We have some
very close friends named David and Phoebe who had moved to the United
States from England, and the way they spoke of their home country made it
sound simply magical. When they moved back to Devon, England after living
in the States for about a decade, we vowed to visit them (and their
daughter, Daisy) to experience the country we’d heard so much about in
their stories.
Finally, last year in
May, Melissa and I had the opportunity to vacation in England. We were so
excited to finally fulfill this dream and once again be reunited with our
dear friends who we hadn’t seen for almost ten years. The timing was
even more meaningful since we had two very significant reasons to
celebrate—David’s and Melissa’s health, as they had both been given
the “all’s clear” after begin diagnosed and treated for cancer the
previous year.

The Logic of Brainstorms
by Eric Maisel, Ph..D.
To be the ethical, engaged, creative, successful, and lively human being you intend to be, you need your brain. But it is not enough to possess a perfectly good brain — you must also use it. If you don’t use your brain you will find yourself trapped in trivialities, condemned to impulsivity, led around by anxiety, and duller and sadder than you have any need to be. The cliché is true: your mind is a terrible thing to waste.
People waste their brains. They allow themselves to worry about next to nothing, wasting neurons. They allow themselves to grow numb with distractions, wasting neurons. They allow themselves to be ruled by a perpetual to-do list, running from errand to chore to chore to errand, wasting neurons. Because they have not trained themselves to aim their brain in the direction of rich and rewarding ideas, ideas worth the wholesale enlistment of neurons, they stay mired in the mental equivalent of a rat race, spending their neuronal capital on spinning hamster wheels.

Reiki
and Psychic Healing: A Comparative Essay
by Elige Stewart
There are many forms of
energy healing available to the seeker. It’s easy to get confused wading
through all of the choices for healing out there. This article addresses
some of the different forms of healing you may find in search of a healing
modality to suit your needs. I’ve
chosen to focus heavily on Reiki in the article, as this healing system is
versatile, easy to learn, and is readily available in most communities.
Reiki is an attunement
process system to broaden the channels of energy in a person’s body so
that they may draw in more of the Universal Life Energy from around them
to perform healing and healing attunements.
Psychic Healing is the manipulation of a person’s energy field
via the healer’s own energy field for the purpose of healing.
Doesn’t seem that different, does it?

Surprisingly
Unhealthy Foods: What to Choose Instead!
by Susan Burke March, MS, RD, LD/N, CDE
What to eat? Seems like a simple question, but it's one that can vex
even the most savvy eater, especially when trying to make sense of food
packaging. How many times do you browse the grocery aisles trying to
discern the "best" pasta, cereal or bread? Most concerned
healthy eaters know the obvious, like there is no fruit in "Froot
Loops." But what about "grown up foods"? You know,
those labeled as "whole grain," "all natural" or
"healthy"?
Food Label Foolishness
There is much confusion for consumers who rely on the front of food
packages to make their choices. Although "natural" should mean
no artificial colors or ingredients, the term "natural" isn't a
guarantee that the product contains whole wheat-or any fruits or
vegetables at all.

From composer, musician, and philanthropist Peter Buffett comes a warm, wise, and inspirational book that asks, Which will you choose: the path of least resistance or the path of potentially greatest satisfaction?
You may think that with a last name like his, Buffett has enjoyed a life of endless privilege. But the son of billionaire investor Warren Buffett says that the only real inheritance handed down from his parents was a philosophy: Forge your own path in life. It is a creed that has allowed him to follow his own passions, establish his own identity, and reap his own successes.
In Life Is What You Make It, Buffett expounds on the strong set of values given to him by his trusting and broadminded mother, his industrious and talented father, and the many life teachers he has met along the way.
Today’s society, Buffett posits, has begun to replace a work ethic, relishing what you do, with a wealth ethic, honoring the payoff instead of the process. We confuse privilege with material accumulation, character with external validation. Yet, by focusing more on substance and less on reward, we can open doors of opportunity and strive toward a greater sense of fulfillment. In clear and concise terms, Buffett reveals a great truth: Life is random, neither fair nor unfair.
From there it becomes easy to recognize the equal dignity and value of every human life—our circumstances may vary but our essences do not. We see that our journey in life rarely follows a straight line but is often met with false starts, crises, and blunders. How we push through and persevere in these challenging moments is where we begin to create the life of our dreams—from discovering our vocations to living out our bliss to giving back to others.
Personal and revealing, instructive and intuitive, Life Is What You Make It is about transcending your circumstances, taking up the reins of your destiny, and living your life to the fullest.
