Pocus: Magic Does Exist!

Lately, our little daughter has been afraid
of dragons. Some witches and the neighbor's black dog have also been causing her
concern. We taught her the magic spell: 'Jimalaya...Jim!' and since she's been
using it, the dragons, witches and even the big black dog, aren't
bothering her anymore. How come? It's magic!
When we cannot comprehend how something
works or happens - we call it magic. Our lives are full of magic. As kids we live in a constant state of wonder.
As 'mature adults' we're constantly seeking explanations or proof, thus
killing magic.
In this article I offer you a few magic
tricks for grownups. They work! Just lift your magic wand, postpone your judgments and let mystery
prevail...

A young woman named Julia Butterfly Hill climbed a 200-foot redwood
in December 1997. She didn't come down for 738 days. The tree,
dubbed Luna, grows in the coastal hills of Northern California, on
land owned by the Maxxam Corporation. In 1985 Maxxam acquired the
previous landlord, Pacific Lumber, then proceeded to "liquidate
its assets" to pay off the debt--in other words, clear-cut the
old-growth redwood forest. Environmentalists charged the company
with harvesting timber at a nonsustainable level. Earth First! in
particular devised tree sit-ins to protest the logging. When Hill
arrived on the scene after traveling cross-country on a whim,
loggers were preparing to clear-cut the hillside where Luna had been
growing for 1,000 years. The Legacy of Luna, part diary, part
treatise, and part New Age spiritual journey, is the story of Julia

Humble Lesson
Are You Caught In A Loop? |

After checking our
website statistics every day, we wondered why people visited
our Report-A-Problem page so often but didn't report a problem. It finally
occurred to us that maybe there was a problem with our
Report-A-Problem page. So we tried it, and guess what? We had a
problem. It didn't work.
Of course, nobody could
report to us that our Report-A-Problem page wasn't working, because
the page they would use to report it didn't work. So the whole
matter got me thinking about other ways in which this same Catch 22
stunted people's personal growth.
What if you considered
yourself to be a good listener, but you weren't? How could you ever learn
that you weren't a good listener if you didn't listen when people
tried to tell you?
What if you were the
type of boss who was unapproachable—employees
were afraid to come to you for help? You'd
think your employees were fine and that everything in your business
was peachy-keen, but in reality your employees would be too afraid to
tell you how poorly your business is running.
If you're frustrated
because the rest of your band keeps playing to the wrong beat, it
might be time to rethink your own rhythm. If you're tired of people
mumbling when they talk to you, it might be time to look into a
hearing aide. If you've wondered why everyone coughs when they tell
you how nice you smell, it might be time to ease up on the perfume.
If we take a
second look at the signals that seem to repeat themselves in our
lives,
we might actually discover new insights about ourselves that make
life easier. Maybe things aren't working exactly as we think. Maybe
the largest obstacles in our paths are ourselves. Imagine the
strides we could take by simply looking at ourselves, our businesses
and our relationships from a new perspective—the
perspective that everyone else sees from the outside looking in.
I hope the people who
found problems on our website will report them again now that we
discovered the biggest problem of all—our
Report-A-Problem page. Further, I hope you'll take a moment to
