NEW MARCH 20 - MARCH 27, 2004 The
Art Of Receiving
by Sharon Warren
Receiving: verb (r-sving)
To admit; to take in; to hold; to contain; to have capacity for; to be
able to take in. To allow or to accept.
Recently, four of us were celebrating the January birthdays of two
girlfriends at a Scottsdale restaurant. We had a wonderful lunch, followed
by going to see Calendar Girls. I arrived at the theater first and
purchased my ticket. I had no idea that Birthday Girl #1 wanted to gift
each of us movie tickets. Friend #3 was having “receiving” issues,
sputtering in protest, “It’s your birthday and you shouldn’t be
buying tickets for us!” I responded, “It is her joy to give and
you are taking away her happiness if you don’t receive this.”
She got it instantly—and accepted the gift graciously. CLICK TO READ Creativity:
It's Only Human!
by Melanie Votaw
When
I was in school, the class I dreaded most was my eighth grade art class.
The teacher put down my every attempt at completing an assignment. I
simply couldn’t produce art the way she wanted it. Luckily for me, I had
already proven myself in other creative areas besides the visual arts –
such as writing and dance. Yet, that art teacher was successful in
convincing me that I had no talent whatsoever for painting, drawing, or
anything remotely related to them. Imagine my surprise when years later, I
published my nature photography and became – of all things – a
volunteer art teacher!

The Subconscious
Mind, Prayer and Healing
by Brother Aleksei
The main impediment in the way of any prayer is too much intellect and too
little devotion. If we do not pray at all or pray without intensity and
devotion, it is not what we consciously want to happen in our life that
does happen--it is what we believe to be true of ourselves and others deep
in our subconscious mind.
Our reality perfectly matches the complex interior belief system that we
are not even aware of most of the time. If you want to know what exactly
you have accumulated in your subconscious mind, just look inside and
around you and take an honest inventory of your life. Are you happy,
healthy, prosperous, optimistic? Through regular prayer and meditation you
can change any belief recorded in your subconscious mind, which in turn
will change the external condition. CLICK TO READ

All the self-help books and
advice, all the therapy and support groups, even the most fabulous
successful career in the world won't really help at all--until we learn to
love ourselves. In Loving Yourself, Daphne Kingma claims that until
we practice loving ourselves--and it takes a lot of practice--we will
never be able to love others fully and completely.
Daphne Rose Kingma, dubbed the "Love
Doctor" by the San Francisco Chronicle, is a psychotherapist of 25
years who has helped thousands of individuals and couples improve their
relationships. Kingma has appeared as a relationship expert on national
television, including the Oprah Winfrey Show. She is the best-selling
author of many books, including Coming Apart, True Love, and
Weddings from the Heart.
"Loving Yourself speaks to our hearts
and souls. Daphne Rose Kingma helps readers root out beliefs and behaviors
the limit love of self and others and then, with gentle wisdom, guides us
onto a more positive and empowered path. Once I began reading, I couldn't
put it down!" --Sue Patton Thoele, author of The Courage To Be
Yourself, Growing Hope, The Woman's Book Of Soul, The
Woman's Book Of Courage, and Freedom After 50.

"Your soul mission is your reason for being, your life purpose.
It's your calling in life--who you feel called to be, what you feel
called to do. Mission is an energy that flows through you--a drive,
voice, or passion that you cannot ignore... It's what you know in
your heart you must live if you are to experience inner peace and
harmony."
~ Alan Seale
"The happiness of you life depends upon the quality of your
thoughts... take care that you entertain no notions unsuitable to
virtue and reasonable nature."
~ Marcus Aurelius
"The grand difficulty is to feel the reality of both worlds, so
as to give each it's due place in our thought and feelings: to keep
our mind's eye and our heart's eye ever fixed on the land of
promise, without looking away from the road along which we are to
travel toward it.
~ August W. & Julius C. Hare
