My Personal
Initiation To Dolphins
by Katryn Lavanture
[This article is much more than an introduction to dolphins; this is a mesmerizing
story of spiritual transformation. ~ OfSpirit.com]
I wasn't always drawn to
dolphins, not until my early 30's did I feel a pull to see what they were
all about. It began when I was pregnant with my 3rd child, my first
daughter. I started having dreams that dolphins were swimming up to the
side of my bed and resting their heads on it, looking at me. One day, I
ended up in a metaphysical bookstore while I was pregnant, looking for
music to listen to during labor. I was inexplicably drawn to a tape called
"Dolphin Dreaming" that has dolphin sounds on it mixed with a
fetal heartbeat and low chanting. I asked the owner to play it and after
the first minute or so of music I burst into tears at the bookstore
counter - something I NEVER do in public. I was as puzzled as anyone about
what was happening to me.
I even tried to swim with
dolphins while I was pregnant, having read that this was a very amazing
thing to do. I began researching captive dolphin facilities, at that time
having no idea that there were other options for me, and was told in no
uncertain terms that pregnant women were NOT allowed to be with the
dolphins in these captive facilities. Quite a paradox in my mind - it
seemed a PERFECT time to swim with dolphins. But dolphins love new life
coming as much as new ones love dolphins, and the facilities were afraid
the dolphins would get too excited and scare the mother's, and more afraid
of the possibility of resulting lawsuits.

From
Skeptic To Believer
by Bob Olson
[Because our Psychics
category is our most frequently viewed page, here's a spooky true story in
the spirit of Halloween.]
...A year ago, I entered a
world I did not believe existed. I wanted to believe, but I guess Im basically the
scientific type, needing proof before I proceed. As a nonbeliever, I really was not in
pursuit of enlightenment in the spiritual fashion. It was more my style to explore in a
playful manner, without expectations but plenty of hopeful curiositya sort of,
"Theres got to be more to life than Im seeing," attitude. In spite
of that, my cynical "Im no fool" side always won the argument, and the
signs that lay before me went unnoticed.
When I accidentally opened
the door that divides earthly and spiritual existencea mere ethereal
separationI set foot in a world beyond my imagination. If my own mother had first
made this discovery, my skepticism would have prevented me from accepting her tale. Yet,
here I am writing about it, as if expecting someone will read my words with credence....
...It is now mid-January of
2000. As I write, I marvel at how much my life has changed since January 1999. I feel like
I have been on a ride at Disney World. The difference, however, is that this ride is not
based in fantasy. While it may sound like fantasy to some people, this is a true story.
Yet, admittedly, I still occasionally pinch myself to see if I wake up.
Last January, on Friday the
15th, my newly published book was released. Ill admit, it was kind of exciting.
However, a couple days after its release, I had a talk with my father. That was a great
deal more exciting because my father had been dead for almost two years. And this is where
my story begins...

This Week's Book Recommendation
Take
Time for Your Life : A Personal Coach's Seven-Step Program for Creating
the Life You Want by Cheryl
Richardson (Paperback - January 2000) Price: $11.70
Amazon.com Review:
Personal coach Cheryl Richardson helps people create the lives they want.
In Take Time for Your Life, she shows you how to switch from being
stressed, unfulfilled, and overworked, to "living a life you
love" by using a seven-step process.
First, she gives you
permission to "make the quality of your life your top priority"
by honoring your self-care--a difficult choice for fast-track readers, but
essential. Putting yourself at the top of your "to do" list will
help you connect your head with your heart and enhance your satisfaction
and joy. Next, you define your priorities and revise your schedule so it
reflects them. Then you figure out what actions, issues, and people are
draining your energy and start to "plug those drains."
The next step is getting your
financial house in order. And so on, through seven progressive strategies
that free you to live an authentic, high-quality life, embracing your
spiritual, emotional, and financial well-being. Richardson recommends
enlisting a friend to work through the book with you: a fine idea to help
you benefit from all the guidance that this book offers. Resource lists at
the end of each chapter let you pursue topics further. Highly recommended.

Halloween
Greetings!
A Holiday Beyond Candy &
Costumes

Halloween
was not always the Hallmark holiday intended to celebrate candy and
costumes. It began with the Celts of northern Europe. It was originally a
festival that celebrated the period between Samhain (pronounced
“SOW-in” in Ireland & “SOW-een” in Wales) and Brigid’s Day.
Known as “the time of little sun” or “The Last Harvest,” basically
it symbolized the transition between the end of summer and the beginning
of winter (the Celts had only two seasons, summer and winter) along
with the commemoration of the Celtic New Year—more correctly stated from
their point of view, the end of the old year (“Yule” was the New
Year).
To
the Celts, this period of time between the old year and the New Year
existed outside of real time. It was a magical time and October 31st
was the night where only a thin ethereal veil existed between the human
world and the spirit world. Hence, the “Feast of the Dead” was a
tradition where families would leave out food for their ancestors who had
crossed-over and were returning for a visit to celebrate the holiday with
them.
Today,
as with many holidays, most people have forgotten the origins and purpose
of the Halloween celebration. Over the years, cultural and religious
changes and beliefs have influenced the meaning and traditions surrounding
this festival of the dead. Many children think that Halloween is all about
candy, spooks and goblins. But that’s okay. When children are excited and enthusiastic about
something, it brings out the
spirit in all of us.

Souls of the
Animals
by Linda Marks
[Not just your average cutesy
article on pets. This article is so special that you'll find yourself
repeating it to friends. ~ OfSpirit.com]
I met my first soul mate when I was a baby.
His name was Mittens, and he lived next door. He was a cocker spaniel and
he became my first love and my devoted friend. When I became mobile, every
day I would sit on the steps next door with Mittens, and I was at peace.
Old enough for deep feelings, yet too young for many words, I found
comfort, safety and welcome in the presence of this special being. Mittens
provided a haven for me that only later in life could I realize was
probably a lifesaver. He was an emotionally safe harbor from a
dysfunctional family. He offered unconditional love and acceptance, and
made me feel welcome on the earth.
Mittens died when I was two. I never forgot
the loss. Perhaps the loss was so deep that while I have been gifted by
almost constant guidance, teaching and companionship of other animals
throughout my life, I have never since allowed myself to get that close
again to a dog. As a 40 year old woman and the mother of a three year old
boy who wants nothing more in life than to have a dog of his own, perhaps
it is time to let another dog soul into my life...

Did You Know?
RE:
Automatic Writing
by Robert Irving
[With our Halloween theme in mind, try
this means of communicating with the spirits around you and leave your
Ouija board in the closet.]
Did you know that you—regardless of how
psychic you think you are—can communicate with your spirit-guides using
a technique called "Automatic Writing?" You’d better believe
it! In fact, it’s as easy as writing a letter to yourself.
Start by getting yourself into a relaxed
state of mind. Take several deep breaths; tighten and then loosen all your
muscles—from head to toe—one area at a time; and listen to some
soothing music, perhaps classical or new age music (best if done with
headphones).
When you feel yourself in a relaxed state,
put your fingers to the keyboard (if you like to type) or pen to paper (if
you prefer this method), and simply write the very first words that come
into your mind. It is usually best for beginners to begin with a specific
question in mind—actually write the question onto the paper and then
write the first words that pop into your mind (as the answer).
The trick is to write whatever immediately
comes into your head, but without really thinking about it consciously.
Write as fast as the words come to you so that you don’t have time to
intellectualize what you’re writing. Don’t worry about spelling or
grammar—this is not going to be graded! Just write the answers to the
questions that you asked, and you can read them later (and edit the
spelling later, too, if you must).
When you stop writing because nothing more
is coming to you, or someone interrupts you, read what you have written.
You will be surprised to recognize that the piece you have written will
sound nothing like your own writing. Friends and family members may notice
this before you do if they are used to reading what you write.
Try to do your automatic writing around the
same time every day. Begin doing it for ten or fifteen minutes per session
at the most. Soon, both your spirit-guides and your own mind will be
trained to anticipate this particular time of the day for this
communication, and you will find yourself able to fall right into the
relaxed state of mind and into your automatic writing without delay.
Do not be discouraged the first few times
you try this. It may feel awkward at the beginning, but you will grow
accustomed to it. You may also need to learn how to "trust" that
what you are writing is actually coming from your spirit-guides and not
from your own mind. You will notice that the words you write have a
greater wisdom about them than the way you normally speak or write. You
will notice that the pattern of speech within the writing is different
than your own. And you will eventually learn—as you grow to trust the
automatic writing—that the information given to you is beyond any
knowledge and experience you had before reading it. With practice and
consistency, you will gain the wisdom of the spirit-world at your finger
tips. Good luck and good writing!
