Quoted from their website:
"Women to Women addresses all the issues women deal
with throughout life. The life cycle of a woman is driven by powerful
biological imperatives. When you understand them, you can view every stage
of life as wonderful and natural. We don't treat women's totally natural
changes as "problems." At Women to Women, we serve
as guides to help you make transitions from one stage of life to another
more smoothly. And when medical problems do arise, we give you options and
alternatives to handle them in the best way possible. For you."

This Week's Book Recommendation

Women's Bodies, Women's
Wisdom : Creating Physical and Emotional Health and Healing by
Christiane Northrup
Amazon.com's Review:
"Quite possibly every female over the age of 12 will find this huge
book enlightening, pain saving, and perhaps even lifesaving. Think of it
as a much more empowering and holistic Our Bodies, Ourselves.
Northrup is a gynecologist who acknowledges the power of natural therapies
and herbs, but also maintains that allopathic treatments, including
surgery, are sometimes best. In Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom, she
covers the treatment of many physical concerns--among them PMS, menstrual
cramps, breast cancer, fibroids, endometriosis, infertility, depression,
childbirth, abortion, cystitis, and menopause--explaining how many of
these physical problems have roots in emotional upsets. For example, a
woman who is unhappy with her marriage may be infertile because deep down,
she knows that her husband is not the right man to have children with; a
teenager who has cramps may be having problems accepting society's
expectations of her as a woman..."

A
Father’s Pride
by Bob Olson
When I lost my father in 1997 to lung
cancer, I was blessed with a most unexpected gift. It was a gift that I
had not known I wanted, but when I received it, I immediately realized how
important it was to me. It is a simple gift that any father can give to
his son at any time in his life. I hope that any father who reads this
story will be inspired to keep giving this gift as often as possible.
It was the end of a long cold winter. Forty
years of non-filtered cigarettes were finally taking their toll on my
father’s defeated body. He had been in and out of the hospital for years
due to poor health—including having half a lung removed one year, and a
quadruple bypass another—but during the last few months he spent more
time in the hospital than out. Although it was a difficult experience,
I’m thankful for the time we had to prepare for his passing. We were
able to say, "Goodbye," say "I love you," and best of
all for me, my father told me he was proud of me. I believe my life has
been easier due to those simple words of approval.
During the last few months of my father’s
life, I tried to remain strong for my mother, my sister and my wife (who
had known my father since she was twelve years old). I almost became
emotionally detached, wanting to be the pillar upon which my family could
lean and a shoulder of strength to cry on. But when my father and I found
ourselves alone one day, him lying in the hospital bed with me sitting by
his side, I lost my strength when he held my hand and told me how proud I
had made him in his life. Like the last drop of water that broke the dam,
a flood of tears overcame my macho facade of detachment...

Clear Visions:
Premature Birth
by Cyma Shapiro-Roland
The year was 1957. Dr. Seuss wrote Cat
in the Hat, Humphry Bogart died. West Side
Story opened in New York City, and I was born. A premature baby, I
came screaming into the world six weeks early — a full 3 Ibs. 2 oz.
In a way, I've waited 40 years to tell this
painful odyssey. And although there are many other similar stories filled
with similar pain and trauma, this is my story.
While I cannot be sure exactly what
happened on that cold, early December morning, I do know the following: my
mother was caught unaware of the impending birth of her child; she felt
enormous pain, was asked if she would like to be given a sedative and put
to sleep. Her next recollection was of the loss of her child and the
emptiness in her heart. My mother wanted to bond with her baby, but
couldn't.
Her child remembers nothing but knows it
all. This was a painful, forceful birth. Where once things had been mildly
blissful and safe, suddenly nothing was safe and it was time to move on.
Safety from death was an issue right from the start. But this angelic,
blessed baby would defy all odds. With survival as the task at hand, this
baby would survive, and admirably. With the odds against her, medical
methods primitive, and knowledge about preemies at a minimum, her first
six weeks were not a pleasurable hotel-stay, but rather an abrasion of
life. Her stay was not about ample hand and arm-holding, endless kisses
and extended visitations. Instead, her stay consisted of solitude in an
incubator with little movement or touch. With modern medicine and
methodologies following the 50's version of thought, to move was to harm,
to touch would not be accepted and to leave alone would ensure full
maturation to full-term. And so, for six weeks she stayed...

"Will I Cluck Like a
Chicken?"
Myths & Misconceptions About Clinical Hypnosis
by Dr. Rick Voit
Many times I have been at a social
gathering where I am asked what I do for a living. The answer, "I'm a
psychologist," is often received with a tense smile and an "oh,
geez, I better watch what I say." I will usually respond that
"my meter is not running" and assure them they can relax. When
people learn that I specialize in hypnotherapy, they seem to experience a
genuine curiosity, but I suspect, a belief that I am, in some way,
strange.
I actually have relatives who appear to
avoid the topic of my work and have hinted they believe that hypnosis
"opens a door to the devil." While I am otherwise loved, liked
and respected by these people, they seem to fear that I am involved in
something unnatural or,... well,... evil.
Myths about hypnosis — that it is deep
sleep, a form of mind control, or is simply a hoax — have endured
despite a long history of clinical use and a growing acceptance by medical
and scientific communities. Besides... I am pretty sure I am not evil...
