Glenn Kidd: Hi Bob, glad you enjoy my CD. I started playing music at age 9, but was introduced to it by my brother at age 3.   I started singing when I was a teenager. 

Bob Olson: Glenn, you just came out with your debut CD, "Aura of Grace." What inspired you to make it?
 
Glenn Kidd: It's been my life long dream and desire to make a studio recording of my music. I wrote "Aura Of Grace" back in 1993 while I was still living in New York. I had always wanted to do something positive and healing through music. Then I took time off away from it to pursue my spiritual work as a Psychic Medium. After 9/11, I felt this calling that it was the right time to bring my music out to the world.

Bob Olson: How would you describe your music? The title song, Aura of Grace, as well as a few other songs have a strong spiritual tone to them. Even some of the song titles sound spiritually based: aura of grace, hands across the universe, seeing is believing, mystical lady, trinity... Was this CD meant to offer a spiritual message or were you simply expressing yourself and some of these songs revealed a spiritual side to you?

Glenn Kidd: It's hard for me to describe my music because I feel as if I'm labeling myself. I would consider it Pop-Rock.  Each song has it's own personality and is spiritually based as you can hear.  I myself love the titles!  I made this CD for myself first and foremost being it was something I needed to do creatively as an outlet away from psychic work.  To me these songs are very personal and each one represents not only a time in my own life, but I know in my heart that anyone listening to it will be able to relate to it spiritually in one form or another.
 
Bob Olson: What does the title, Aura of Grace, mean to you and what is the song about?

Glenn Kidd: The title came about while I was performing an acoustic show in NYC back in November 1992. This girl came to see me play and after the show, she made this comment to me saying I have such an aura of grace. I thought WOW- great song title.  Three months later I had the song completely written within 20 minutes. What's funny is that this song lyrically relates more to my life since 1996 when I started doing psychic work.  People ask me if the song is about Grace who happens to be my future daughter. Aura Of Grace is just about the way people see me as a person in my work. 

Bob Olson: Do you believe that music and lyrics are channeled through people in a spiritual sense, or do you think it is just creativity seeking release and expression?

Glenn Kidd: I think it derives from both which is actually quite wonderful. Sometimes the best songs come from life events that one has experienced. 
 
Bob Olson: Do you write music and lyrics to affect people? And, if so, what affect are you hoping for?

Glenn Kidd: I have always been the type to write about experiences that I have had or things I have seen in others as I depicted in my song "So Down".  I think with all musicians they want to their music to affect someone. In my case I just want to make a positive difference in someone's life through my music.
 
Bob Olson: Do you believe music is healing? If so, in what way? What do you listen to unwind.

Glenn Kidd: Music is without a doubt very healing. Music has been around for ages. Angels have been playing music from the beginning of time. It's all how one brings light in to it. The messages in the lyrics, the melody, the chords, the tempo, all of that plays an integral part of what can be healing. I'd love to hear more music out there for the younger kids to have something to look forward to in life, instead of the music they are currently listening to. These days I listen to Jazz more than I ever did, because to me that's both healing and relaxing for me. I am happy just listening to guitar instrumental stuff as well.
 
Bob Olson: I noticed that a couple songs have a noticeable Billy Idol influence. How has your music and/or style been influenced by Billy?

Glenn Kidd: If one reads my chronology in my www.glennkidd.net website they can see how that came about. I first discovered Billy in Oct 1981 at the age of 10. I have had the pleasure of meeting him and his guitarist, Steve Stevens. They both had a major influence on me. After 22 years of listening to his music, I guess he rubbed off on me! 

Bob Olson: Who else has influenced you as a musician?

Glenn Kidd: Just to name a few of the many that have influenced me are: John Lennon & The Beatles, Marc Bolan, David Bowie, The Pretenders, The Replacements, Aerosmith, KISS,  U2, Jim Morrison, Lenny Kravitz, Jewel. I have always admired people who have something to talk about. I appreciate artists that that are innovators and are not afraid express themselves or speak their minds. 
 
Bob Olson: What do you enjoy more, writing music, writing lyrics, playing music or singing?

Glenn Kidd: Each one has it's own unique moment. I love writing, getting myself in the creative process. Recently I bought a keyboard and I have been writing music on that which is something I've never done before, since I always wrote songs on guitar. Playing live is just as exciting for me. Being I am a diverse person, I usually perform my songs slightly different than the way I wrote and recorded them just for experimental purposes so I don't get bored.
 
Bob Olson: What did you learn about yourself while creating this CD? What was the most inspiring moment to you?

Glenn Kidd: I learned a lot. For one I learned what it's like actually making a CD. Being I had total creative control of my own project that helped a great deal. I learned what works and what doesn't work. The great thing about working with other people who played on the record with me, is that they brought my songs to life. The songs took on a whole new meaning in itself.  The most inspiring moment came quite often throughout the process but mostly with the song "Trinity". I wrote that while making the CD on a day off. It came to me very quickly and when we recorded it days afterwards , it was truly magical from the lyrics to the music with the violins to Grace manifesting herself in the chorus and the water fading out the song. I truly felt Angelic beings all around me that day. It ends up being a favorite song among many people who have my CD.  I love each song, but Trinity, Aura Of Grace, Echoes Of Paradise & Love Conquers All are my personal favorites. "Love Conquers All" has to be one of my most intense songs I ever written lyrically. It's about a child losing her Dad on 9/11. These songs still gives me the chills when I listen to them.
 
Bob Olson: I learned from your website, GlennKidd.net, that you wrote some of the songs on this CD years ago. Tell us a little about those and why you chose to record them now at this time in your life, as opposed to years ago when you wrote them.

Glenn Kidd: Aura Of Grace, Echoes Of Paradise & Hands Across The Universe were written in 1993. I had always wanted to put these songs on my debut CD. I knew that they are special & have great meaning. I felt that these songs were a little ahead of it's time spiritually speaking and that people back then might not have been able to relate to them. Plus I did not have the band nor music business people to support my ideas in making a record.
 
Bob Olson: I also read a little about your history as a music artist on your website. It reads like the journal of chaos, heartbreak and struggle, which is not the peaceful and pleasant Glenn I have met. What is it that drives you to live in this chaotic, roller-coaster world of rock and roll?
 
Glenn Kidd: Thanks Bob for calling me peaceful and pleasant. I am about to turn 32 and I am wiser and more spiritual nowadays, plus I am more comfortable with who I am as a person. From 16-25, I had a lot going on as most people that age do. The rock & roll lifestyle especially in New York City is a roller-coaster ride in itself. I spent years partying in night clubs till 4, 5 in the morning then going to work. At the time I also had issues of my own to deal with. I have had my share of struggles, heartaches and depression, but I have also had many great times and have persevered through it all without regrets. I know my experiences has made me become the person who I am today and I am thankful.

Bob Olson: What kind of feedback have you received from people about your CD?

Glenn Kidd: So far I've had great responses from people who have my CD. As a matter of fact one of them brought my CD to her brother's wedding recently and the DJ played my song "I Love You". I felt very honored to hear that. I would have never expected that. A lot of the people say they really can relate to the meanings in the songs & that is very inspiring to me.
 
Bob Olson: What's next for Glenn Kidd?

Glenn Kidd: I'd like to have a really good back-up band with professional musicians  to go out and do gigs with. I'd like to get my CD off to major record labels and see what comes out of that. I have been working on some new songs and plan on recording another CD later this year to be released in 2004. In the meantime, I am going to trust in the universe to take care of me as I always do & if the universe wants my music to be out there for the whole world, then it will be.
