Editor's Blog...
A Lesson In Articulation That Could Save Your Life
If you’ve read any of
my blog stories before, you might already know that I used to run a small
business called Olson Odd Jobs from the time I was a teenager in high
school to when I was a young adult out of college. I had a great
reputation for doing quality work in my odd-jobs business, but I was a
small operation, meaning I didn’t have a fancy truck or power equipment
like many handymen have today. In fact, at various times over the years, I
didn’t even have a truck; I actually lugged around my 15-foot ladder on
the roof of my car. Now that I think back, it wasn’t even my ladder. It
was my future father-in-law’s ladder, and it was rusty, bent and in need
of a proper burial. But it served its purpose and I didn’t have to buy
one.
Well, one of the things I
used to do in that service business was clean rain gutters for homeowners.
Depending upon where you live in the country, you might call them eaves
troughs. Gutter cleaning was a very popular service of mine since many
homeowners are afraid of heights. And cleaning out gutters involves
climbing a ladder to the roof and then leaning over the edge of the roof
while emptying sticks, leaves and muck out of the gutter; or it involves
climbing the ladder, cleaning the gutters as far as you can reach your
arms, then moving the ladder over to clean a few more feet of gutter, and
so on.

Why
Are Your Family Members And Friends In Your Life? Discover The Purpose
Behind Your Relationships With The Soul Contract Intuitive—Danielle
MacKinnon
by Bob Olson
Have you ever wondered why certain people are in your
life? How about pets? For instance, why is your best friend your best
friend? What purpose does your father play in your life?
What is your son meant to teach you? What is your pet
here to show you? For that matter,
what significance do you have in their
lives?
These are questions
that most of us have from time to time, yet we tend to
assume there’s no answer—only speculation. I
recently learned, however, that there actually is a way
to learn why particular people (and even pets) are in
our lives. It’s called a “Soul Contract Reading.”
And I found this reading experience incredibly
meaningful.

Creating A
Garden Sanctuary
by Trish Whynot, D.C.Ed.
"Sanctuary is where we take care of our soul. It is both a place and
a state of the mind and heart-a refuge to hold dear and to reverently
give." suggest Christopher Forrest McDowell and Tricia
Clark-McDowell, owners and stewards of the Cortesia Sanctuary. Intention
to designate a space as sacred is what transforms it to sanctuary status.
When we raise a location in nature to sanctuary status, we gift it with
elements that bring delight to our heart and soul. A sacred space is a
place where we allow nature to touch our humanity and where we allow our
humanity to touch nature. The intent is not to control nature, nor for
nature to control us, but rather a place where we as people and nature can
come to know and enjoy each other.

Do
You Have Inspiration Deficit Disorder?
by
Jonathan Ellerby, Ph.D
Do
you feel stuck in one or more areas of your life? Do you lack the time to
regularly renew yourself and enjoy your interests? Are you relying on
caffeine, anti-depressants or alcohol to manage your stress and emotional
well-being?
If so, you
might be suffering from Inspiration
Deficit Disorder. An
inspiration deficit occurs whenever we feel unfulfilled or somehow
unexpressed in an important aspect of life – something is missing; a job
we don’t like, a struggle with self image, a relationship we aren’t
satisfied with, are all examples of where we may feel an inspiration
deficit. When we let these deficits persist they translate into,
addictions, bad habits, poor health, and high stress –sadly, most people
have it to some degree and it impacts their health and happiness more than
they know.

Ask a kid a question, and you never know what
will tumble out. Here, from bestselling author and brilliant
child-at-heart Suzy Becker, is a marvelously interactive way to involve
kids in the challenges of life, from what to do about the ozone layer to
how to mend a broken heart. Surprising, imaginative, funny, wise, The
Kids Make It Better Book is a pure delight, combining a "kids say
the darndest things" and Children's Letters to God humor with
a greater goal: that of teaching kids the value of being engaged.
Each "problem" begins with a spread that asks a question and
gives one or more solutions from children—illustrated in whimsical
full-color drawings by the author. Then the reader is presented with two
pages of fill-ins, prompts, and a space to draw his or her own ideas. How
do you fix a bad economy? "The government should have a bake
sale," says Jennifer, age 9. What would you do to improve
schools? "Put chocolate milk in the water fountain."—Robert,
age 8. What can we do to take better care of our water? "Have
scientists make fish that love to eat tons of pollution."—Jackie,
age 9. And finally, a question on the nature of helping itself: The
biggest challenge of all might be getting people up off their couches to
do something. Any ideas? "Put spikes on the couches"—Micah,
age 10.
Suzy Becker is an author, artist, and
entrepreneur, a former White House Fellow (the Clinton administration), a
Bunting Fellow at Radcliffe College, a winner of the Anti-Defamation
League's "A World of Difference" award, and the founder of Ride
FAR (Ride for AIDS Resources). Her books include the #1 New York Times
bestseller All I Need to Know I Learned from My Cat, I Had Brain
Surgery, What's Your Excuse?, and My Dog's the World's Best Dog.
She lives with her family in central Massachusetts.

"Whatever messages
we give ourselves--whatever we hear ourselves saying out loud--we
are either affirming a belief in something positive or affirming
a belief in something negative. Whether we choose to believe in
it or not, there is power in the words we use, which includes the words
we say to ourselves. Consequently, people who live consciously choose
to use their words wisely, thereby giving themselves positive, life-improving
messages rather than negative, self-defeating ones.
If you choose your words consciously and wisely, then you'll understand
the value of Cheryl Richardson's new card deck, My Daily Affirmation
Cards. It gives you 50 affirmations so potent with the power
to change your life that focusing on just one card per day can make
a difference. Pick a card each morning to allow the Universe to work
with you in choosing the perfect affirmation for that day. If you know
Cheryl's work, then you already know her eloquence with words. Never
have I met a more articulate public speaker, which is why honoring
her fans with her own affirmations is such a gift.
The photographs that Cheryl hand-picked for each affirmation in
the deck are the second reason this deck is so special.
Filled with images of nature, animals and inspirational
photography, each image will either make you smile, laugh or
feel in awe of the world in which we live. Of course, I might
be somewhat biased since my wife, Melissa, is the
photographer for this card deck. ~ Bob Olson, OfSpirit.com editor |
Cheryl Richardson is the New York Times best-selling author of Take Time for Your
Life, Life Makeovers, Stand Up for Your Life, The Unmistakable Touch of
Grace, and The Art of Extreme Self-Care. She leads a large Web community, which is dedicated to helping people around the world improve their quality of life.
